Yeah celebrate!!!!! This is a late 1970, original paint, original everything. It runs and drives and doesn’t even have any rust. It still need work but there is a lot to work with. My dad bought this car in 2005 while visiting us in Sacramento. He paid $2,000 for it and shipped it to Missoula to get to driving condition.

Wait, you live in Sacramento? Or lived in Sacramento? If it’s the former, I want to check out the new Datsun this weekend!

I can believe it. Do what you can to keep the original finishes - those will be even more desirable as time goes on. Restore it mechanically, but only detail it cosmetically. Nice car and amazing investment.

That’s the plan. I don’t have money to paint anyway.

I just put it in the garage, runs like a well oiled sewing machine with an exhaust note.

Immediately we are doing the fuse box, strut cartridges and seats. It will need an alignment and some minor interior work but I’m not painting it or changing anything from original.

And the zx is a pig by comparison. I guess this car weighs something like 2250 lbs and is made out of the cheapest and thinnest of Japanese steel.

Don’t paint it, you won’t get the money back, and you’ll be able to enjoy it more by not worrying about every rock chip . A skilled detailer can cut and polish the old paint and do some airbrush touch up work to make it look good, and old paint has a quality that can’t be replicated.

Yeah, but it was $750 at the time. Beggars can’t be choosers :)
I’ve just always adored the styling of the original Z cars. And then they resurrected them and broke my heart...

I dig it.
Is there a one-stop-shopping source for restoration parts? Or do you have to eBay everything? Looks like you’re gonna need rub strips and possibly a front bumper? The dinks in the hood can be pulled out, I think.
Keep the slot mags. Not only awesome, but period correct.

Yes motorsports auto in Southern California is still going and they pretty much have everything. One of the big things is the seats need to be rebuilt and they can provide new foam and period correct blue seat recovering kits.

Cool. Now the biggest problem is paying the credit-card bill. If you pay it, you’ll know exactly what all this shit costs and get discouraged. So let the Mrs pay it... but then she’ll know.

Looks good! Still has the shipping hooks on it. You know those little hooks were for the ship from Japan, they are not for towing a car up onto a flatbed etc... they can break. I installed some good tow rings.
